1/31 Haqqani wants ban on ID cards, passports in NWA to go
Ex MNA North Waziristan and patron in chief of JUI Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mulana Nek Zaman Haqqani has strongly condemned the ban imposed on issuance of national identity card, domicile certificates and passports etc by the Fata Secretariat to the residents of North Waziristan Agency since the December 2012.

In an exclusive interview with The Frontier Post, Haqqani said the local administration and Fata secretariat authorities have banned issuance of ID cards and other basic documents after the local militants imposed ban on administering Polio drops as a protest against drone attacks in the area. "The common people have not refused to vaccinate their children against polio. The government and the militants should sit together and decide the matter amicably but public should not suffer due to this act" Maulana said adding, thousands of tribesmen would be left without getting ID cards ahead of the general polls.

He termed the decision of the authorities as a conspiracy against the voters of the people of North Waziristan and said ID card and passport were both basic rights of every citizen and no one can deprive people from their basic rights under any law of the land. Haqqani said the political administration was using FCR more brutally than before and no change was seen as a result of the amendments in FCR.

He maintained the decision would make a large number of people jobless who certainly would tend to militancy and extremism if they lose their jobs due to the cruel act of the administration.

He further said that there was a peace committee already working over the issue. He further explained thousands of the poor tribesmen had to bear huge financial losses as their visas and passports expired due to non-availability of ID cards and passports.

"There are no opportunities of jobs in the tribal areas if you don't issue them ID card. It means you stop them from going abroad to do jobs which is a main source of income of the tribesmen" Maulana added.
