So, you feel stuck in a rut of procrastination at work. What do you do about it? There are a number of reasons why people get stuck in procrastination mode. Before you do anything else, you must identify why you’re in this rut in the first place. Here are a few reasons why people get stuck in procrastination ruts and a few tips for getting out.
#1 – You’re Unclear on WHY You’re Doing What You’re Doing
Sometimes when we get stuck and don’t feel like we can’t move forward, it’s because we’ve lost our why. “Why am I pursuing this career path?” The why brings motivation. If you don’t know why, you will have a hard time getting a firm grip on motivation. When you’re clear on your why, you will be able to push through tough seasons and see them through to the other side.
#2 – You’re Unclear on Your Goals
It’s important to have big, long-term goals. However, the big goals can be quite intimidating because they don’t come with an instruction manual on how to achieve them. You can start to find the right answers by breaking your larger goals down into smaller, actionable ones. If you don’t, it will be very difficult to realize your dream. Define where you want to be in the long run and then create a hand full of smaller goals that lead you to that point.
#3 – You’re Unfocused
No matter where you are, there will always be a lot to accomplish and a lot of distractions to come with it. It’s important that you understand what your priorities are so that you can stay dedicated to what really matters. Decide what is critical to accomplish today and make sure it gets down. Whatever can wait, let it wait. And, if you need to, turn off your notifications and respond to messages at designated times. Not every ping on your phone or computer needs your attention right away.
