Whether it’s social media notifications, messages from your spouse, the pressure of deadlines for difference departments, life can be a jumbled mess of busyness and it can be hard to decide where to even begin. Here are a few tips for staying focused and productive.
Stay Focused on What is Important Right Now
When you’ve got a lot on your plate, everything feels urgent. However, you don’t always have to give your time away to what feels urgent. You have to ask, “what is the most important thing to accomplish right now?” When you answer that question will you be working on what is actually going to create real change in your organization. The other tasks need to get done, but sometimes they can wait until tomorrow.
Consider Where You’re Going
I’m sure you know where you want to be, but where you are headed is determined by what you are doing right now. How does what the team is working on right now help you reach your goals? Analyze if you’re actually working toward a real goal, or just working.
Create a Dashboard
One of the best ways to get a clear picture of how well the organization is doing is by creating a dashboard to show where the wins and losses are. Sometimes we see wins and feel like all is well, but there are often other facets that get overlooked which could result in overall failure. Define the elements that create a true win and find a way to chart them out regularly to see where you’re really at. This will give your team a real sense of how they’re doing and help them to stay focused on what really matters.
