Product Spotlight: Swivel Hooks vs Badge Clips

With it being so important to know what we keep in stock in our production office, we keep an eye on which accessories are most popular among our customers. Lanyards are certainly one of those accessories, and for good reason. Lanyards come with a lot of variety. There are different styles, sizes, thicknesses, color/print customization options as well as attachment varieties. Typically we’ve seen our customers reach for badge clips as their go to attachment, but there is another variety or attachment that seems to have been forgotten. Swivel Hooks. Are they subpar to the badge clip or have they simply been overlooked? Let’s take a look at both and see which is best for you.

Swivel Hooks vs Badge ClipsBadge Clips

Badge clips are certainly a great choice. They can be easily clipped onto the badge and do a great job of keeping it from flipping around which maximizes visibility of the card’s most important information. However, because they come in direct contact with the card, it can scratch the card if worn in a fairly active environment. This leads to increased wear and tear on the card surface. This may not be an issue for those who chose a minimalist card design, but those wanting to utilize an edge to edge design may not prefer this potential for scratching. Because the badge clips are so easy to attach, they are also easy to detach. All it takes a little pressure and the badge clip will release the card. That could be as simple as leaning over your desk, chair or any other hard surface. Additionally, the badge clip requires a specific type of slot punch unless you’re using a badge holder, which would be an added expense to your company’s ID card system.

Swivel Hooks are similar to the badge clip but do function a little differently. Firstly, they are a little bit more difficult to attach to the card itself which in turn makes them less likely to become detached from the card. However, since they are more flexible in how they hold the card, they are more likely to flip over to show the back of the card. This is mainly a issue for those in active environments. Unlike the badge clip, swivel hooks do not require a specified type of hole punch. They can be used on the wider slot punch that is necessary for badge clips or they can be used on a smaller, more circular hole punch. This would be beneficial for individuals that want to maximize the card’s space for design real estate. Since the hole punch is smaller, you can do more with the surface area of the card. In the end, both options are great and it really comes down to your needs and preferences.
