Texas Residents Will be Required to Provide an Approved ID Card Before Voting

ID CardAccording to the Texas Voter ID law, it’s required that everyone within the state of Texas provide an approved ID card before being permitted to cast a ballot. (texomashomepage.com)

Before a ballot will be issued, voters will be required to present one of the following forms of ID:

  • State-issued ID card
  • State-issued Driver’s License
  • U.S. Passport that is up-to-date
  • Military ID Card
  • U.S. Citizen Certificate with a photo
  • DPS-issued Concealed Handgun License
  • Election Identification Certificate

The Election Identification Certificate (EIC) is a free document that is provided by the Department of Public Safety for individuals who meet certain criteria.

To apply for an EIC, applicants will need to visit their local DPS location to fill out an application. Applicants will be required to verify U.S. citizenship and may need a copy of their birth certificate in addition to any two of the following items:

  • School records
  • Medicaid / Medicare card
  • Government-issued ID card
  • An expired Texas ID card
  • Unexpired insurance policy
  • Voter registration card
  • Social Security card

In order to qualify for the EIC, applicants must satisfy the following conditions:

  • Must be 17 years and 10 months old, or older
  • Must be eligible to vote in the state of Texas
  • Provide valid documentation for verification of identity and U.S. citizenship
  • Provide proof of Texas residency
