All of the expiring visitor badges contain a printable or writable front surface in addition to a backing layer that contains the expiration design. When the two surfaces are adhered together the badge begins to expire. The front surface layer will gradually fade which exposes the design on the backing layer.
There are varying expiration times for the visitor badges. You can purchase badges that last for only a few hours, one week or up to an entire month.
Temperature does play a role in how quickly the badges expire. If the badges are being used in warmer conditions, they will expire more quickly than in cooler conditions. Warm conditions cause the decay of the front surface to be more rapid while colder conditions actually cause the process to slow down.
Once the badges expire, they cannot be re-used which is very helpful in preventing visitors from gaining un-permitted access after the expiration period.
