University of Wisconsin – La Crosse to get New ID Cards

ID CardsTo better align the campus with PCI compliance considerations, The University of Wisconsin – La Crosse will be ending its run with the HigherOne ID cards in favor of the new EagleID. (cr80news.com)

According The Raquet, UWL’s student news site, the campus is currently in the middle of making the transition from the HigherOne ID cards to the EagleID. The new ID cards will carry the same functionality of the older form with the exception of the debit card feature for the students that have a HigherOne checking account.

Officials of the university stress that changes will be minimal. Director of University Centers, Larry Ringgenberg, says, “We are not changing the ID card system, we are just replacing the cards so that there will no longer be a MasterCard logo on the ID card. Everything else will remain the same.”

The one significant change to the ID cards will be their ability to be linked to the student’s bank account which is not longer possible. UWL officials decided to make the switch largely because of PCI compliance concerns.

All returning UWL students will be required to get the new ID cards. Additionally, to do so, students will need to submit a new ID photo which can be done online. Staff and faculty members will also be required to receive the new ID card for accessing campus buildings after hours.

Further requirement for acquiring the new EagleID include providing a valid form of identification such as a driver’s license, passport, etc. Once the new ID is issued, the previous ID will no longer be accepted for on-campus transactions.

To assist the UWL community through this transition, the university has provided an FAQ list
